Last month we held our first ever Virtual Assessment Centre, to support us in the search for our next generation of Software Development Graduates! Perhaps unsurprisingly and given current circumstances, we had to do things a little differently this year…
The HR team and some of the wider business worked together to recreate group tasks so that they were fit for the virtual world while giving our candidates every chance to display their skills, knowledge and experience. The groups were divided across a number of virtual breakout rooms with a member of our Development team anchoring each one. The virtual tasks and challenges were well thought through and were designed to assess general coding abilities and design work as well as calling for teambuilding skills.
During the assessment centre, candidates received valuable insight what makes us tick as a business and had an opportunity to meet with our current cohort of graduates – who were in the exact same place as they were twelve months’ ago – even if that was in a face-to-face environment rather than on screen!
Our seasoned grads shared their personal thoughts on our Academy Programme and talked through their day to day experience of being a Graduate Engineer at Microlise.
Prospective graduates also met with various members of the HR and Development Teams, so whilst it was a remote assessment centre, we made it as engaging as possible to give them every opportunity to put their best foot forward!
The day was a huge success – we couldn’t have done it without the support of our Development Managers and current graduates – so thank you all! We very much look forward to welcoming our next cohort of Graduates who will be joining us in the summer of 2021!
