For those that don’t know, Movember unites global experts to collaborate on projects to support men in need, whilst targeting the three biggest health issues facing men: Mental Health and Suicide Prevention, Prostate Cancer, and Testicular Cancer.
Through these projects and encouraging conversations on Men’s Health, a catalyst for change has been sparked! Change which includes tackling the stigma on mental health, quashing the stereotype of “real men” not being emotional. Not to mention, encouraging testicular self-examination and spreading awareness to help detect prostate cancer early. To get more information on Movember please click here.
So what have we done at Microlise?
We had numerous events, with a core purpose of promoting awareness to such a poignant topic, and it will come as no surprise, but we grew moustaches to raise funds. Starting clean shaven, Team Microlise spread the word whilst donning their best “Mo” from here to Australia! We also held several events and activities, including:
Movember Mastermind
To provide a little light relief during one Wednesday lunchbreak, we held a virtual quiz comprising of five rounds and and a small donation to take part. It was great to see so many people involved, whilst raising awareness and encouraging (friendly) competition between colleagues!
Huge congratulations to those who won, and of course thank you to our fabulous Quizmaster and to everyone who took part.
Vitality workshops
We’ve had several online workshops, ran by our private medical insurance provider, Vitality. These all focused on raising awareness for Men’s Health, and included topics such as:
- Men’s Cancer awareness with Check 4 Cancer
- Discussing Men’s Mental Health
- Men’s Health with England cricketer Joe Root
- Type II Diabetes: Prevention and Management
Mo Run
Employees dusted off their trainers and took part in running events around the UK and France. Whether it was 5k or half marathons, we were there to boost donations and raise awareness of Movember.
Looking ahead…
We actively support and promote the health and wellbeing of our employees; whether that’s raising awareness and sharing resources, wellbeing activities or just checking in with one another. Whilst November was primarily focused on Men’s Health, we have numerous wellbeing initiatives coming up in the future, so watch this space!
A huge thank you to all those at Microlise who took part and donated. Thanks to you, we have been able to raise … (drumroll please) … £1,086 for Movember!
